Tragic and unforseen events involving benadryl and a LOT of laundry, caused me to need to postpone the playgroup this week til Friday.  Same park as listed previously, Green Spring Park at the top of Green Spring drive directly off the Green Spring exit off i-15.  Love to see any and all there at 11:00 am Friday.  Have a Happy Valentines Day tomorrow!!!

not your mother's house rules

so it's cold outside, right? too cold to try to bundle up and drive to park to play for half and hour before we freeze and have to go home.  So.... since we have no yard, I got out my trusty tape and ribbon (again) made some goal lines and yes, we played soccer inside the house. It was great fun and we will probably do it again. :)

If someone asked my husband, “what does your wife do at home all day?” His reply today would be, “Well she’s taping string to the floor.”

Yeah, maybe I am a little strange.

And maybe I do believe a lot of what this man says, but I am living proof that school cannot squash ALL the creativity out of a person. I thank my mom for that, she was always very encouraging through all my weirdness in inventing things or drawing or writing or really in any way that I chose to expend my creative juices.

So I would just like to say that though it may seem like a waste of time to create a maze on the floor out of string at home I am loving the opportunity to watch and learn with my son as well as be the example of how to use a little string and tape to have a good time.

I created this blog a very long time ago in a lame attempt to log crafty things or post pictures of my cute kids.  I would like to try to use this space again, this time to show how we are “unschooling” at our house and trying to include the Thomas Jefferson Education Model to reclaim our education.

So today we made a maze. Beep LOVES to do them on paper so I thought I would make one big on for him to walk through.  He’s always asking me to make them out of blocks for his cars to drive through. I had taped a long piece of ribbon to the floor to see if he could “balance” on the straight line and he actually did really well.  So we took it a step further.  He didn’t really like the rule of walking between the lines, and rather enjoyed walking on top of them, but he had fun nonetheless.

Now hindsight, I would have used duct tape. It would have gone a lot faster and maybe be a little easier to see, but it's kind of fun in it's multi-colored way.  And I would just like to add that this is an awesome activity for many reasons: helps build coordination, learning left and right, following rules, but also the tape can easily be pulled up and stuck back down again (at least on my carpet) so you can use it again and again in the same day and create all kinds of new fun mazes or patterns on the floor! The possibilities are endless! Enjoy!

turtle soup....

Remember that book about the little boy who made soup out of his turtle? what book was that? the same kid that had to count out 200 cheerios for breakfast every morning? Fudge something? I don't remember....
ANYWAY~
I didn't make turtle soup, I actually made carrot soup, and it was heavenly!
If you don't like tomato soup (like me) that's ok, but this soup is basically tomato soup, but with carrots.

Make it like this:

some chicken broth (4 cups)
some carrots (4 big ones, or more)

Boil for about 15 minutes

pour into blender like a cup at a time and blend 'til smooth.

(Watch out it is very hot and hard to keep in the blender)

put back in your pot and add:

salt, pepper and heavy whipping cream (about a cup?)

(I used evaporated milk, because that's what I had and it was SOO YUMMY!)

heat through and enjoy!

Cloth diapers are amazing!

So here's a few of the cloth diapers I have made, now that my son is almost ready to potty train I am looking to share my little bit of knowledge about these wonderful diapers!
they are SO simple and so much fun to make! and according to my math, you can diaper your child from birth to about age 3 (or potty trained) for about 140$ or less!!! That beats the HECK out of 1200$ in disposables! I sure could stand to get back some of the money I've spent on them!

the cloth insert is folded in the front for boys, and in the back for girls.

my son's back side, because that is usually the view I get... as he runs away, as fast as he can. :)

p90x weeks 2 and 3

still in progress....as I ended up with strep last thursday, rendering me nearly dead for the last week. but I had to report that after last nights non-attempt at plyometrics I successfully finished almost the whole work out tonight and I feel-tired, but great! and Senor Haagen-Dazs Strawberry agrees with me. :) Happy healthiness, more craftiness will come...when I can once again take pictures with a camera that can plug into a computer rather than be torn apart and developed at my local walmart.

week 1 success!!!

I have just finished week 1 of p90x!! I wanted to start the new year off right so I started my resolution a week early and I'm already enjoying a VERY sore and slightly stronger body! I haven't lost any weight yet, but it's only been a week. I figure I have let many a 90 day period pass without seeing results, but also without trying for any so here I go!! Chest and Back with Ab ripper tomorrow for anyone who wants to join in! but beware that I will be a little smug when I have finished my 90 days a week before you! :) JK! whoever you are, you probably have more will power than I.

****health tip****
eating almonds after a workout helps regulate your blood sugar levels and is a great source of yummy protein!!
